Re the oil & gas stuff: The post I linked to was authored by a geologist/manager who worked for SLB and now works for one of the oil majors; he knows more about the industry than anyone I have access to.

Agree re regulating fracking before a disaster shuts it down. It should be done at the federal level for simplicity and to ensure coverage of all basins.

What do you think the chances are of the House coming to any sort of rational consensus? I haven't followed this closely, but the impression I get is that there are still a lot of Tea Party-types in the House.
