Clik! vs. Flash - a spec comparison.

refs:

iomega.com
sandisk.com

Sleep Power

Clik! - not listed, but says "Designed to be extremely power-efficient; uses intelligent power management"
D2 Compact Flash (D2CF) consumes 0.66-2.50 mAV

Operating Power

Sandisk Read 105-148 mAV (3.3V) 230-375 mAV (5V)
Sandisk Write 105-198 mAV (3.3V) 230-450 mAV (5V)
Clik! - Not listed

We must wait for the final power specs from IOM.
Of interest to the user is how many pictures can be taken before running out of power?

Startup Time

Clik! spin up time - 0.6 second
D2CF - .0020-.0025 second

With Clik! you wait about 1/2 the time as for film advance.
With Sandisk, no significant wait.

Data Transfer Rate

Clik! (burst to disk) - not listed
Sandisk (burst to flash) - 4000-8000 KB/sec

Clik! (sustained) - 500-1000 KB/sec
Sandisk (sustained) - not listed

Sandisk won't list the sustained rate. So how many microseconds does the "burst" last.
Of interest to the user is how long after taking a picture before the camera is ready to take another?
With Clik, one can estimate a 2MB picture can be taken about every 3 seconds.

Operating Shock

Clik! - 100G
D2CF - 2000G

Non-Operating Shock

Clik! - 300G
D2CF - 2000G

Thus from the above, I see no evidence of any technical superiority D2CF has over Clik! that translates into significant operational convenience, capability or reliability.

Solid state will naturally be more capable and rugged than disk, but how much of that is overkill to the average user? I suspect all of it.

Price

Clik! - $100 addon price for drive, $10/disk
D2CF - not listed - I wonder why?
