j o'b,

re:I too am heavily into semiequips and have been since early 1996. I sleep very well at night and have little doubt that this investment will greatly outperform the DOW 30.

Historically, the Dow has beat more than 3/4 of the fund managers. Recently, more than 85% of the fund managers have been beat by the Dow. And using the "Beating the Dow" system as implemented by the Motley Fools has beat 96% of the fund managers during the past 3 years. Investors, who adhere to the system, are forced to take the majority of the price increase in those Dow Stocks that are most likely to have the largest increases.

Anyone who bought AMAT, BRKS, KLIC or PRIA near their recent highs would likely be overjoyed with the relative returns of the "beating the Dow" stocks during the same holding periods.

Other studies show that investors/speculators are not adequately compensated for the risk they take by buying high beta stocks. i.e. - Too many people pay too high a price hoping to benefit from that volatility.

It may be "Foolish" to increase one's net worth faster than the overall market increase while taking less than market risk. ... but it does support the more stimulating experience of trying to pick the high tech winners. Personally, I think it's "foolish" to disregard history and probabilities. There's good money to be made in the Dow - to deny it is to deny the reality of 70 years history since the Dow has had 30 stocks.

By the way, many of the Dow components have a technology flavour.

Ian.

James I agree 100%We should be sleeping good until at least late 98 or early 99. After that I hope to be smarter than I was in 96, when all the analyst were bullish and the stocks crashed. This time I plan on waiting until all the analyst have them as strong buys for my sell signal. Hang in there we will beat Disney and Coke Don
