If your goal is 70 million votes and your time is limited, are you better off campaigning in the LA media market or Dubuque? New York or Bangor?
But nobody's campaigning in Bangor now, because Maine has only four electoral votes. Dubuque gets some play because Iowa is a swing state.

What would change if the Electoral College were abolished is that New York and California would get some attention from the campaigns. Since more people live there, it makes a lot of sense that they should get that attention. Maine, Montana, Wyoming, etc., would be no worse off.
