'Media Matters' Writer Calls SEALs Gutless for Criticizing Obama

Thursday, 16 Aug 2012 By Patrick Hobin
newsmax.com

A writer for the liberal, George Soros-funded website Media Matters stirred conservative outrage Thursday when he described a group of former Navy SEALs who have criticized the Obama administration for national security leaks as gutless.

Writer Eric Boehlert said Navy SEALs “don’t have guts to admit they're running a GOP, anti-Obama campaign,” in reference to current and former SEALs who have slammed President Barack Obama for grabbing credit for Osama bin Laden’s death and using SEALS to help his campaign.

Boehlert tweeted the remark on Thursday about the SEALs, with a link to a New York Times article he referred to in the tweet, saying “former Navy SEALs don’t have guts to admit they’re running a GOP, anti-Obama campaign.”

The article, published Aug. 15, describes a new group called the Special Operations Opsec (operational security) Education Fund. Some in the group, according to the Times, have been involved in Republican campaigns and Tea Party groups. Because the group is a 501c3, it doesn't have to reveal its donors.

A 22-minute video on the SEALs website criticizes Obama. The Obama campaign compared it to the “Swift Boat” ads against Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts in the 2004 presidential campaign, according to the Times.

But the tweet by Boehlert, a former editor at Rolling Stone, drew especially swift rebukes.

“I almost could not believe it when I read it. Boehlert is such a straight up Obama boot licker that he actually smears former Navy SEALs who don’t like the fact that President Obama’s administration is leaking sensitive information that could put current SEALs in danger and for attempting to politicize their efforts,” wrote The Right Sphere blog.

“The fierce warrior Boehlert does not care so much about the leaks that put American men and women at risk, but instead prefers to call the Navy SEALS gutless. As noted by the NY Times, ‘Security officials and members of both parties in Congress have sharply criticized leaks about classified operations under Mr. Obama.’ Is Boehlert so blinded by ideology that he can dismiss the very real threat posed by these leaks?” wrote Renee Nal on Gather.com.

And a tweet from “SonnyBunch” said, “Dear God: All I ask before I die is that you let me witness Eric Boehlert call a Navy SEAL a coward to his face.”

Navy SEALs are “Gutless”?

August 17, 2012 6:50 AM
So much stupidity BY DEREK HUNTER

It’s Friday, so rather than offer an op-ed length blog post I’m going to offer up an actual blog-type post. A few quick-hits of news with some commentary and link. This is, after all, what a blog is.

Navy SEALs are “Gutless”?

The left-wing extremist activist group Media Matters for America really stepped in it yesterday. Eric Boehlert, their “senior fellow” in what can only be described as “watching TV he hates and complaining about it,” tweeted “?#kindalame former Navy SEALs don't have guts to admit they're running a GOP, anti-Obama campaign.” He then linked to a New York Times story about a group of former special forces soldiers who’ve formed a group critical of the President over national security leaks related to the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden.

Why Boehlert decided to call some Navy SEALs “gutless” is no mystery – the SEALs and other special operations heroes criticized President Obama. In the world of the “non-partisan” Media Matters, that is not allowed.

By the way, Boehlert chose to attack the SEALs on a day 7 US troops, including 2 SEALs, were killed in Afghanistan, making even scummier.

The reaction to Boehlert’s ridiculous smear was quick and hilarious on Twitter.

I offered to fly him to any SEAL bar in America so he can call them and their brethren “gutless” to their faces. I’ve gotten no response,
which is kind of…gutless.

No Depth Limit To Eric Boehlert’s Stupidity

Seriously, how does this clown even have a job? His infantile and idiotic behavior on Twitter alone should have him washing cars somewhere, not making six figures writing drivel all day for David Brock.
