The truth is that the Left was looking for any possible thing to bash Bush about, Bush was already being pounded on the Iraq War, and when it happened, he was hammered.

Anyone else would have been defensive, but Bush has never been into trying to deflect responsibility for anything. He just says, "Yep, it was me, now let's move on and get the job done." Our current president puts more effort into deflecting responsibility than he does trying to solve the problems sometimes.

It is actually a very impressive quality of GWB, but it will take history a very long time to sort out his presidency as a result. Of course, the media bashing doesn't help.

Back during Katrina, a news reporter friend who is an expert on hurricanes, having covered them for a large paper for years, was irate with Bush after three days. Yet, he is totally willing to overlook what's going on now in NY/NJ. During Katrina, I pointed out that is wasn't reasonable for FEMA to be there within a couple of days and he corrected me hastily. Yet, I noticed him telling someone else last week she shouldn't be bitching about FEMA not being in NYC until at least 72 hours had passed. I was so tempted to bring up the double standard, but held my tongue. This guy had always done a great job of hiding his political bias until after he retired. I had no idea he was a far left leaner until this election season.

In the end, it depends on whose side of political spectrum you're on I suppose, but you'd think ther ewould be some consistency somewhere.

>SilentZ has the right perspective, but he can't deny that the Democrats capitalized politically on the whole FEMA blame game back in 2005. Remember Kanye West claiming that Bush hated black people? Wonder if SilentZ said, "Oh screw that," or whether he nodded his head in agreement.

It wasn't a blame game. The Bush administration screwed up and there was blame to go around. And listen to Christie... I personally feel that he actually screwed the pooch on his 2016 ambitions thanks to his complimenting Obama on how he's handling the hurricane. But he's right. And there are a whole bunch of politicians that i really don't like at all and hope to not see in office going forward that happen to be doing a pretty good job here.

As for Kanye West, I didn't really know who he was then and I barely do now. I don't take much stock in what "celebrities" say. And I don't think that Bush hates black people. I don't think he really cared much about poor people, though.

I'm still not entirely sure what you expected FEMA to do that it hasn't done. It seemed to be right on top of this, despite the fact that Sandy was very, very different from Katrina and was basically unprecedented. Can you be more specific?

Right, says Z. The Bush administration screwed up.

But I notice he doesn't go into any details, with good reason. When you start looking at details, it turns out that essentially every major screwup was at the state and local level.

These guys are just total hypocrites.

Kanye West appears to be the Ted Nugent lite of the black world.........probably will get worse as he ages. He speaks for no one besides Kanye West. In fact, I think Bush is more sensitive to minorities than most Rs.....which is not saying much btw. Bush just stunk at governing. Its why the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan went poorly; its why banks and Wall Street were having one big party under his administration, its why FEMA was so ineffective and its why NOLA was treated so poorly.

Rs keep trying to play victim here instead of owning up to their screw ups.
