Thanks for this long post about the founders and small states. As I recalled, it was about the various compromises necessary to get started rather than a consensual agreement to protect small states. Best I can tell, these notes say that as well.

Sam, when I say the Founders set up the bicameral legislature as they did in order to prevent the larger states from pushing the smaller ones around, I'm talking about what they ended up doing, not the alternative possibilities they discussed on the way. I guess saying that they "wanted" a specific thing is somewhat inaccurate, since they disagreed a lot.

Thanks for the information on the discussion they had at the time. Fascinating stuff. It's rather remarkable that the government those men set up has endured for this long, with only a few major tweaks like having women and black people vote.
