The thing with viruses is that experienced microsoft users are smart enough to avoid them. You pay extra money to scan for them and avoid websites that might be a problem. Average users get them though.

Your experience is incidental, overall statistics are what matters.

I rarely avoid websites and average users on iOS or OSX have never had to worry or buy and run extra software. So far.

I suspect the majority of surface purchasers will be people who are already pretty facile with Windows. Systems admins, business users etc. It will sell well to that market.

Naive users will probably not be pleased by its lack of apps. Its not a device for gamers since its pretty anemically powered.

Its not the kind of device that would make many happy under the xmas tree, unless your wife or husband is a systems admin.

My guess is kids, who are more cross platform, will be much happier to see an iPad under the tree. Great way to get your kids to STFU. Getting a surface will be like getting sox from (your rich) gramma, greeted by despair and consternation.

I'm more and more convinced that Apple will unstoppable this xmas. In fact I see sales of the mini accelerating as Xmas gets closer.
