The regressives have a way of tarring anyone reasonable as a "RINO", and eventually running them out of the party. I don't see this changing. I see them doubling down on crazy.

There's a more than reasonable argument right now that we are in the beginning stages of a rather long term political transition. The obvious three parties right now are (1) a somewhat lefty bit for folk like me and many of this thread's inhabitants; (2) a middle of the road party for the Bloombergs, Crists, and so on of the world; and (3) a very right wing party for the tea party and allied groups.

But if the argument that our system will only tolerate two parties is correct, then it's rather difficult to see how that morphs into two. For the moment you can get two in the prospective combination of the 1 and 2 out of fear of 3. But that's only momentary.
