Incidentally, I have 25 GB used up on a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro, with no desktop programs installed other than Windows Live Essentials (with 10 or so Metro style apps). No idea what is using up all that storage space.

I would image if you decoded and rasterized the extra space, you would find various images like this:
