yeah, and whenever somebody equates progressivism, socialism and communism they all have a hissy fit because we don't understand the nuances of the differences between them.

We are not a democracy in the pure sense of the word. And the distinction between a government limiting constitutional republic and a democracy is important and profound.

The names Democrat and Republican are not accidents. Democrats want the majority rule part, without the limitations. Republicans like the idea of a limited government in the form of a Republic.
