Nokia Introduces Premium Developer Program With $99 Membership Fee

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) recently introduced its Nokia Premium Developer Program, designed for developers interested in creating applications for Windows Phone 8 devices. The program enables developers to create better apps faster, but the program is not free.



Developers interested in access to the Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) Premium Developer Program are required to pay a membership fee of $99. According to Finnish mobile device manufacturer, the members of the Nokia Premium Developers Program will enjoy $1,500 worth of benefits, including tools and services that are important in creating their applications.

The $99 membership fee offers the following benefits:

A one-year membership in the Microsoft Windows Phone Dev Center (Retail value: $99)Free license for Teklerik Rad Controls for Windows Phone (Retail value: $99)Buddy.com Cloud APIs- Developers can access up to 1 million API calls every month for one year during the duration of their membership. (Retail value:$1,200)Developers will also receive two Nokia tech support tickets with a $198 value.The company introduced the Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) Premium Developers Program during the Microsoft Build Conference in October. Nokia also indicated that it is phasing out its free developers program-the Nokia Developer Launchpad Program, and the invitation-only Nokia Developer Pro Program.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) posted a statement on its website, which reads, “Nokia is announcing that we are in the process of refreshing our developer programs to focus more tightly on our core platforms, Windows Phone and Series 40. As a result, we are not currently accepting new applications for Nokia Developer Launchpad and Nokia Developer Pro programs.”

According to the company, it will no longer complete the pending applications of developers under the Nokia Developer Launchpad Program, but those who received approvals will be able to receive their developers device until the end of the month.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) emphasized that its commitment to the developer community “remains strong” and the company will continue to offer new programs in the future.

In addition to the Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) Developers Program, the company also introduced the Marketing in a Box (Beta), designed to help developers create an effective marketing strategy to promote their applications. The Marketing in a Box (Beta) provides marketing guidance and a digital marketing toolkit.

It's an understatement to say that the Lumia 920 is priced "to sell," and that doesn't just mean with AT&T's carrier subsidy. If you'd prefer to own your smartphone outright, you can snag the handset for $449.99 -- $100 less the Galaxy S III and $200 less than the iPhone 5. There's no word on when these pre-orders will begin to ship, but if you're that commitment-phobic, you're not gonna hold other people to deadlines, are you?
