Absolutely beautiful. Thank you.

I (and all Americans) need to reflect on those words. (I've printed them out for future reference.)

Foresters try to raise forests that serve not them, but their children's children, and theirs

Time was I'd walk my dog on Weyerhauser ground near Crystal Mountain. Clear cuts would barely have the detritus cleared when seedlings were planted for use a generation or more hence.

A bud long ago used topog maps when looking for a home site north of Seattle. He found a hilltop, incredible views, at reasonable elevation near Mt Vernon. It was Weyerhauser ground, prime for development, but recently logged and replanted.

The long view is no longer in vogue. For now.
