Still Troubled By mREITs? 9 More Double-Digit-Yield Alternatives

October 19, 2012 | 30 commentsby: Joseph P. Porter | includes: CEL, CIMT, CTEL, DCIX, DSX, EDUC, OMAB, PT, RNO, SFL, VOD, XEL

Disclosure:
I am long DCIX. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article. I may initiate a position in SFL and/or RNO over the next 72 hours.

On October 3, and again on October 10, it was announced that there was a substantial increase in refinance activity, with a resultant increase in prepayments. Analysts are now predicting (as of October 17) that refinancing (and the resultant prepayments) will continue well into 2013. Certainly not very good news for mREITs - indeed, there has been little news that has been encouraging to investors in this once-high-yielding sector.
