Yes I remember those years. Even though I was young and just starting out, I could have met with a tax shelter specialist 8 hours a day

That money was just wasted trying to avoid taxes. When Reagan lowered taxes it came off the sidelines and powered the economy.

It seems probable that they were carrying more of the load than they are now. And since there is not a ton of heritage foundation data confirming that they pay more now, I surmise that the facts are probably being covered over by other more appealing talking points.
