The word "conservative" is now obsolete. There is nothing left to conserve. How about "Restorationist" instead?

Conservatism believes in keeping things as they are. Change is a Liberal idea. In this case a Libertarian one. I think it's a bit more subtle than that. IMO the core of conservatism is an emphasis on rights of the individual vs the state, and enlightened respect for tradition and longstanding social mores. Thus conservatives often do campaign for change. To change abortion laws for instance, or to change gun ownership laws. We are happy with change as long as it respects the core principles of conservatism. Especially if that undoes a previous liberal change. The war on drugs is a recent phenomena. Throughout most history our government didn't care or intrude in these matters of personal choice. The idea that a government agency could dictate acceptable blood chemistry and could even deny one employment if you smoked the "wrong" plant is a very recent innovation. And one that totally goes against the rights of the individual as well as tradition. Therefore I see terminating the war-on-drugs as a conservative cause. Fortunately, judging from the polls more and more young conservatives get this. Hopefully they won't have to wait for all us oldsters to die before we can make this change.
