Long term research Other long term positive trends included the move towards digital content (requiring large disk drives), the upgrade potential of the 250mm PC's already installed and the potential use of data storage devices within consumer electronics. While these are all five year or more trends they point to the reason market forecasts call for a $33 billion storage market by 1999.

<< I feel sorry for anyone who's long this stock.>>

Mike: Thanks for the sympathy. I think I feel a little better with your kind words (but not much). ; ) ...Tim

and may I add ..."This sucks!".

; ) ; ) ; ) "'Cuz when you're smiling, whenyour smiling, the whole world smiles with you ..." . Boo, hoo, hoo. (Now I feel (a little) better). Onward, one foot in front of the other, to the land of the profits.

Thanks, thread, for allowing me a little babbling to get through this apparent death spiral in the DD's. Good luck to all of us. ...Tim

Two years ago WDC traded in the $7 range, with a PE of about 6. Fundamentals were much better back then.

I don't know what the company means when they say "modestly profitable" for fiscal '98, but since they earned .67 1st Qtr and claim they'll break even 2nd Qtr, I assume that means they'll lose money 3rd and 4th Qtr's. So they'll probably earn a nickel or a dime for the whole year. But let's be conservative and put their fiscal '98 earnings at a quarter per share, and raise their PE above their historical ratio to say 10. This would give you a stock trading at $2.50.

Can't argue with the math.
