Thanks Joe! ... I wonder if the Novell folk are planning to fix the Marketing problems with current staff ... or are they actually getting the company ready to sell out ... or buy a company with some real marketing capability?

I was told that they had a substantial Marketing Budget for a major new marketing campaign starting about the same time that Slitz was hired. They all seemed to expect him to rubber stamp the budget ... and I expected that we were about to see another old Novell Style advertising campaign (with inadequate sales followup) ... then the budget was NOT approved, instead he took the time to re-organize and probably re-mission quite a bit of the Marketing staff/plans etc. ... the re-org was being 'sold' to the internal folk the week before COMDEX ... I kind of expected a big Marketing push to start in COMDEX, and was impressed with the apparent success of the 'connecting points' install ... now they've gone quiet again.

This only makes sense if they have more 're-organization' to do, but I don't have any current rumours or insights into what they are up to. I just know that they think they have something more important than Marketing to do right now ... what on earth could they be up to?

I wonder if they are visiting with Intel again? Do you know if they've been visiting IBM recently?

And ... to Fredrick Smart, your comments about Schmidt's vision & personal 'marketing' efforts ... I agree, but don't think it is nearly enough ... he needs a small army of marketing people, needs to get the company message out to 50 million potential customers ... and most importantly needs to get Novell actually making sales right now.
