i have also thought the house should give obama just exactly what he wails about all the time. i absolutely agree with the part of your post to simply pass the 39.5% (39.6% ?) for those over $250K, and send it on to the senate with the rest of the current tax code (amt and all with no changes) just as it is today. see if the senate will pass it as is. if not, the house has done what obama wanted, and obama's senate rejected it. if the senate accepts it, passes it as is, sends it to obama, and he signs it. the house can reliably say to everyone it has done what obama wanted, and things still are bad in the economy. the house would have the high ground to get on with tax reform and entitlement reform.

i think the house should do it as laid out and just see what happens. no matter if the tea party house guys don't vote for it, the house dems will vote along with a lot of house republicans.

if the house gives obama exactly what he wanted by saying yes, the house has much better standing when things do not get better with the debt and economy. it also has much better standing in getting entitlement reform and tax reform leadership on the subjects.

if the house calls obama's bluff, it can reveal his hand was very weak. he might muck his hand and want a new deal of the cards.
