Perhaps, but the primaries didn't cause Romney to lose the election.
A lot of things did. Pretty much everything you mentioned.

It was still a very close election, but I do agree that we Republicans underestimated turnout for the Democrats.

Flip flops? No one flip flops like Romney. He has taken every possible position, and even some that are not possible, on every issue he has addressed. Sometimes he changed positions in the same sentence.
