I don't know if the thinking is predominant. But predominant thinking is always suspect. Predominant thinking would have one averaging down on losing positions. Wrong. It may work for awhile but sooner or later the big hit comes. Predominant thinking would have many people think "well, OXHP was $70 bucks not long ago.....it's gotta be a steal here at $30". You can break the rules and get away with it. Eventually the rules break you for not respecting them
