I may have posted this here before ." For one thing, most people in such privileged positions of power really are not crooked cheats simply out for themselves. Most government bureaucrats, politicians, businesspeople, lawyers, and bankers really do believe they are providing a useful and perhaps even noble service. They view their privileges and socioeconomic rents not as perks unjustifiably pilfered, but as concrete confirmation of the worth and value which society—the people, the voters, the market, etc.—places upon their efforts. They think they deserve them.2 Given that society allows or even encourages such actors to enjoy such special privileges, it is hard to argue that they are wrong."

Oops, getting tangled up with your own double negative Mq. You meant "If the left included only people who don't have any income...." <If "the left" excluded people who don't have any income from doing work for governments, whether as contractors, teachers, doctors [their cartel is government-enforced and therefore part of the government], actual government employees, military, and hordes of others who get paid one way or another from government largess, welfare, pensioners etc, I wonder how many there would be left in your "moral imperative" category. > There would not be many. Wives who get their money from government workers would be excluded.
