Well the conservative position is that we DONT depend on the govt... if that is the case then it really doesnt matter what some panel says because the "I pulled myself up by my own bootstraps" conservative is just going to pay for his own health care. If he cant get it here he'll go to another country to get it. I'm a Kaiser member and pay horrendous premiums and they have their own "death panel" -- they're called "loss mitigators" and they decide what treatment I will get. If the doctor thinks I should get treatment Y for my condition and that treatment is the most expensive they will make me undergo various less expensive treatments first. After they fail then I get treatment Y. Personally, I dont buy into the "death panel" hype of the tea-baggers.

I don't understand Even so, do you really want some government clerk passing judgement on whether you should live or die? Is that really the best we can do? Are you implying it will be illegal to buy private insurance to give me what the government doesn't cover or just use my savings to pay an MD? It seems the option for those who have not saved or paid for private insurance is no different with a negative "death panel outcome" than someone who elected to not have any insurance at all.
