I think Doran meant fiscal cliff in the sense if fear for the economy, not selling in anticipation of tax increases.
I think there will be uncertainty until something is finally banged out in Washington. They may even do a little kick the can down the road again. I am not worried about the Fiscal Cliff bringing down the economy since it would be political suicide to any politician that was seen as letting it happen.

And, there are many components to what everyone is just calling the Fiscal Cliff. But, I think there is a direct effect on Apple with the part of it that is the capital gains tax increase. And this one looks like it will remain in some form or another.

Both.

AND Apple has traditionally been more volatile than the overall market too, so that's probably a part of it. I think most of us guessed Apple's stock price would be pressured around now, just not this much.

I have to say compared to 2008 I'm not very worried. 2008 had me sick to my stomach. This time... a little worried, not a lot. I still think Apple is going to rake in $$$ this xmas.

The fiscal cliff: at the risk of politics: We are going to go over it. Brinkmanship. But immediately after going over the cliff they'll agree to a retroactive deal. Its in the interest of people in Congress to "prove" to their constituents that they are "tough" whether Republican or Democrat. So they'll go over the cliff to "prove" it then they have the excuse that "they had to" compromise for the sake of the nation.

They don't care what it does to the economy, in fact, a lot of bets will probably be placed by brokers working for our congress around the fact that its going down to the wire or even past the wire.

By the way I forgot to add Europe to the overall mix.

- rumorS (multiple)
- Europe
- fiscal cliff
- year end selling
- "missing" last quarters absurd expectations
- lemming effect

Having said that... do I wanna risk some more capital to make what seems to me a pretty easy 20% short term profit?

Hmmm... Europe... 2008 still burned into memory... 2008 and now is how we earn our money.

Agree. The Fiscal Cliff has Mr. Market really spooked and it is definitely impacting AAPL.
