This iMac story is really one of the great mysteries of Apple's story, one of many great stories.

It has me totally fascinated. I cannot see how they could have made this mistake, given Cook's reputation and their experience. I really think there is a deliberate reason for it.

The only other explanation I can see is there is something Samsung related in the equation. Huge lawsuit coming?

:-)
It could happen, but I think Apple would be able to go back to making the older models, possibly with updated processors and system boards. If I were Tim Cook, I'd have a backup plan already in motion.
"From this day forward, Apple will be coming out with a new and innovative line of Windows PCs." :-)

Nah, doesn't sound right.

What else?

The portable with 9" B&W screen idea is already taken.

They could use the shells, use glass instead of those hard to get screens, fill with water and very colorful fish and snails and slow release food.

Not too many people would notice - especially those that use their computer mainly for FaceBook - until the fish start floating upside; just in time for the upgrade.
