j o'b,

The Beating the Dow strategy has failed miserably this year

How so? It's beating the dow as of this time though it did get off to a slow start for most of the year. The Unemotional Value (variation by the Motley Fool folk) has given me a 42% return so far this year, well in excess of the Dow, NASDAQ or S&P returns.

and is no longer valid

by what standard?

, abandoned by O'Higgins its author, since so many people are into it.

True, much to his chagrin, he abandoned the approach shortly after publishing the book. Those who have stuck with it have been handsomely rewarded.

In any case, I have never taken the position that no one should ever buy any semi equipment stocks under any circumstances. Just last Friday, I published a table of stocks that were again becoming interesting at current prices. ... and I may very well nibble at some of them soon. I will definitely keep a base of my portfolio in the "beating the Dow" system.

Ian.
