China's price war in MPEG -1 Video CD players continues unabated. Latest bloodbath was precipitated by 25% price cut on Idall-brand player, to $160 from $220, newspaper China Daily reported. Move followed 20%-30% price reductions this summer by 7 brands with more than 10% market share each. Idall Electrical Appliance Co. sweetened pot and raised competitive ante by offering free and discounted video CDs through its 1,000 retailers.
