<What is the reason for the military demanding that its officers and men move so frequently? Wouldn't a more stable organization be better? I don't know. Just asking.>

Economics, hubris, factors beyond my ken?

Just some meandering from an aging mind. Around 1977 PCS (permanent change of station) orders were desirable and considered career enhancing. Perhaps because pain loves company. We used to sneer at homesteaders who could spend a long time or even a career in the same geographic location.

When $ became tight homesteading became social acceptable and pcs orders were dreaded. The movers were low bidders and the time and effort needed to put into a damage claim were legion.

The pendulum swings and having swung swings again?.
