Pretty sure that as opposed to the suppression and regimentation that shrouds the United States, Hong Kong has been heralded, particularly in this discussion thread, as the true, ultimate, bastion of freedom on Earth

I seriously doubt that anything could abridge this model of freedom of expression and economic bliss

So rumors about that other Chinese entity can safely be ignored since they must read this thread

ymmv.....

Seems to me that HK exists at the Mainland's whim... It's an experiment..

Seems to me that you are agreeing with me again. The day China took over from Great Britain and The British Empire, after the 99 year lease was up, soldiers came driving in over the border, neat and tidy and ready for action to enforce whatever needed enforcement.

Of course Hong Kong is at the Politburo's whim. The politburo don't take any nonsense from Tibet, they crunch anyone causing disturbance in en.wikipedia.org , they threaten total war against Taiwan if Taiwan expresses independent thoughts. They are taking over nearby ocean.

Hong Kong is on a short leash.

If Hong Kongese said "Oh, by the way, we have decided to join Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Indonesia in a Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere", China would send in as many soldiers as needed to keep them prisoner.
