All AMDer's Good news. Yield problems have improved but still persist AMD is still not out of the woods. More 233's are being produced. 200's are sold out as high demand from sub 1000 box makers offerings have flown off the shelf during the post thanksgivning Christmans sales. Try to find a AMD 200 Ctx out there there all gone. Flawed chips have increased AMD breakeven hurdel from $525 Million to $650 per qtr, victim of futile production cost of defective chips. And Intel price cuts have ravished the revenue forcast. Abadone all Hope for posting a small profit for fourth qtr. It's all but impossible. Flash prices under severe preasure from over supply of inferior chip offerings. Pld pricing under preasure from Altera who also suddenly can't make a buck. Future fears are that AMD will face the same production ramp problems with the .25u process. The process is pushing the technologhy right to the very edge of the state of the art. Good new is that 300u mhz at .25u are being made flaw free in Sunny Vale Submicron Cneter Facility. The new .25u chips are in very high demand and give AMD cusomers notebook capability. The AMD 300.@.25u3D due out in the second qtr will give AMD a chip that surpasses anything Intel can offer in improved multimedia capability. AMD is on schudule to convert completly to .25u from .35u by thrid Qtr. Cost of conversion will further impact profitability during the first half.
It's hard to draw any other conclusion other than the stock price will remain under preasure and essentially dead money till third qtr. results appear giving the company a chance to earn a buck in 98. At PE 20 the stock is fully priced for that to happen. It's a tought business when you decide to take on Intel.
