Could apply to the US or Israel. I don't have a PC view of fencing or immigration. I think my view is moral and rational though. Linear fences have bottoms, tops, and ends so people just go under, over, around, or through as required. The way to make it so people don't want to come illegally is to assure, through peace and economic development that it is so good back home, most people want to stay there. Please come visit and be a tourist. But go back home like I and everyone else will have to do in your country. If you want to come here, bring a skill and apply like everyone else is supposed to do. It is the law and if it sucks, it is supposed to suck equally for everyone. We know it doesn't - look at Rupert Murdock - he should not have been made a citizen IMO due to his questionable business dealings. Doctors from India? Let them in. I have an Indian doctor now and he is great. People who are displaced by our own militaristic activities (and indirect support of Drug Cartels via broad criminalization of drug use) end up wanting to find a better life elsewhere, often at great personal risk. While we benefit from the "brain drain" attraction, which I selfishly support. However, we end up taking the very people who could promote change in these distant nations and make those places worse off. Our birthright citizen policy (controversially known as "an anchor baby") is incredibly out of synch with even the most liberal nations of Europe like Sweden, Denmark and Norway. You simply don't get to be a citizen anywhere else in the world via illegal immigration whether or not you are born on the soil of the target country. You may be granted asylum but that is not assured, and there is a process. Instead, the numbers suggest most illegals live in substandard conditions and are exploited by unethical people and groups, trying to stay off the radar of the hosting country. BTW, if you were to sneak into Mexico (the most common source of illegal immigration in the US) you would be committing a felony and face a two year prison term if caught. A second offense gives you up to 10 years. After the prison terms you would deported. You couldn't own property or work legally with illegal status and there is no path to legal immigrant status for felons. So, in fact, Mexico is much harsher with illegals than we are. I'd like them to stop criticizing us and take some ownership for the problem. When I hear how bad it is here and how tough it is for illegals here, I say "Really, compared to where?" I have sympathy for people who were not born into wealth. I'd like us to stop bombing or otherwise corrupting foreign countries and start raising their standard of living. Immigration will not be a problem then.
