3Com Corp./Inventory -2: Analysts Put 2Q Net At 44c/Shr

Dow Jones News Service via Dow Jones

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Dow Jones)--3Com Corp. (COMS) forecast a "slight profit"
for its second quarter on revenue of $1.22 billion to $1.24 billion after it
moved to cut inventory levels and keep them lower in the future.

Thirty-three analysts surveyed by First Call Inc. had expected the maker of
modems and computer networking products to earn 44 cents a share for its second
quarter ended last month.

3Com said the new model "necessitates planning for further modest inventory
reductions in the company's modem and systems businesses" during the third
quarter. Achieving the planned reductions "would complete the convergence to the
new inventory model and ensure alignment with channel partners," 3Com said.
