The lower VIX is considered by the pundits as a proxy for the SP to move higher. They always claim the correlation is just about perfect, hence the thought of govt. manipulation. As I stated to Wayners the govt bought the MMI index on the Tuesday after Black Monday. It was the least traded and lowest volume index traded back in 87. I could be wrong but I think that most commodities can be cash settled if agreed on. I know all futures have 1st notice and delivery days but their are many more speculators than net hedgers and user's of products these days than in the past.
