Just my natural impulse to think locally... California is supposed to be so leftist but our tallest building is not the "People's Tower" as the rest of the country might think, but just another insurer. Largest usable volumes are Boeing Aircraft factory and Target import distribution warehouse. These two are telling as well - a more utilitarian cause, IMO. More about logistics than power. The Pentagon is not calling the shots, IMO, it is the money. The Pentagon makes the case and the power brokers make the plays. As Eisenhower warned us - it is the Military-Industrial-Congressional complex (in the original version of the speech). Congress was deleted as being too controversial. I go back to Deep Throat of Woodward/Bernstein fame - "Follow the money". Yeah, sometimes it ends up in a tall building. Other times, it is simply flushed down a rat hole in the Middle East.
