Addi on the TXN website is a full article about a presentation they did a few weeks ago where they articulated well about the current environment. What they said there agrees with what you've said.

Korea & others feeling the pain is definitely true as well. But also remember that their current exports have become a lot cheaper. In addition who knows but some maybe dumping to raise cash. So that means that U.S. companies will feel the heat for awhile re: accelerated pricing pressure. But the manufacturers there many of whom are leveraged are in trouble no doubt and the non Korean (and other companies) not in the same boat will have a lead on the next generation chips depending on how much pain the Korean (& other) companies feel.

Also as the press has reported, the Street has not lowered estimates on whole sectors and they should do so soon or else the earnings warnings will continue. So far CS, ALTR, VLSI, WDC and tomorrow 3COM. LSI coming up soon... Nah can't be - LSI's expectations got slashed after Q3 analysts conference - so theoretically one would hope not much more pain.

(Things will really go sour if the overall PC industry succumbs - no sign of that at this point I think regardless of what Kurlak says. Besides I'll have to check on this but typically when the disk drive sector sucks the semis do not and vice versa. What's happening now with both sectors crashing is an aberration I think but I'll have to check further.)
