Thanks for that link about Erlich. So he was a butterfly collector and thought humans are like butterflies [reproductively]. Now I can see why he went so badly wrong. He anthropomorphized butterflies - a basic scientific blunder. And he was not a pioneer about the possible problems of the burgeoning human populations. You can go back another century for concern about that and a lot longer than that too, when local genocidal conflicts resolved over-population by genocide in inter tribal warfare.

Erlich was a lepidopterist, not a scientist. That's like being a stamp collector.

What has Hansen done?

He got himself arrested for being part of an illegal demonstration..

en.wikipedia.org

Aug 29th, 2011.. which was a Monday..

I certainly hope he took paid leave to attend that demonstration.. He is, after all, a gov't employee.

I believe it's still the case that military personnel are regularly discharged for being arrested for various violations, in particular DUI.

Certainly being AWOL is still a punishable offense. I wonder if Hansen was "AWOL" on that particular day..

But even more important, why is is a government employee engaging in such political activism?

It definitely undermines his objectivity on the issue of climate science.

As for Mann, Climategate not-withstanding, he won the Nobel Prize.. Just ask him.. he'll tell you all about it..

So your "heroes" of climate science are people who deliberately politicize science, or pad their CVs to make themselves for their "love me walls"..

Nice..
