Steve, I found your portfolio post thought provoking--not so much because of the individual choices (tho they were interesting too) but because of the allocations.

I would not have expected that an accomplished professional trader would have tied up a significant portion of his assets in mutual funds. Many prof traders (e.g. James Cramer) are making the case that carefully chosen stocks are the way to go if a person has sufficient capital to diversify--even if a person lacks your knowledge and skill for stock trading. You've also indicated elsewhere on this thread that you think mutual funds have a place in virtually any portfolio.

Might I ask you to say a bit more about your rationale behind your distributions? I can think of several, but would really appreicate your insights here.

FWIW, I _really_ appreciate the time and care you put into your posts--your sometimes detractors notwithstanding. :) I have learned a lot from this thread, and look forward to following it for at least as long as you care to contribute.

BTW, what kind of law did you do, and for how long? My wife's a labor lawyer, working too hard, here in Chicago. Please keep the brief autobiographical asides coming where appropriate. I'm sure I'm not the only one to enjoy 'em.

Best,

Dave
