If that was true why did Obama win latino votes 71 to 27%?

Multiple reasons: 1. Republican politicians are idiots when it comes to political messaging. 2.Democrats will lie and distort to win in politics and 3. many voters are idiots and vote with emotions rather than reasoning.

Reagan gave them amnesty and the right wing was Ok with it, but let the dems do it and the pubs go nuts.
Amnesty without sealing the borders is foolish regardless of party. If there was an honest effort to stem the tide of illegal immigrants, I would support amnesty for illegals immigrants. However, it would be with the condition that they and their children would be permanent alien residents and not citizens. To become citizens, they would need to have come here legally.

Part of this is just practicality. It's kind of like the war on drugs. It is a futile effort, so it is better to deal with reality than to try and fight a losing battle.
