"Good science, like good religion, is a journey of discovery, a quest. It builds on traditions from the past. But it is most effective when it recognizes how much we do not know, when it is not arrogant but humble." That is true about Science. But good Science should not invent fiction to fill in the unknown. That is the job of the religious. I do not see the point of using fiction as a guidestone to living. The Hale Bopps were educated people who decided that Science could expand into fiction. They then made up a story, killed themselves, and sailed to catch a comet. Good luck to them.
