Once elephants are protected they can quickly overbreed like deer and need to be culled, which always causes a lot of fuss. But that's what happens when you alter natural patterns in shrinking geographical footprints.

It also varies by country. The southern African countries that work on elephant management have large herds, but poaching can still be a problem elsewhere.
