On many indexes, I agree they look more toppy than bottoming out.

However, in many of the out of favor sectors, the individual charts are saying very different things. In many charts that have been in steady downtrends for the past 2 or 3 years, that reversal is happening .... in the short term. I stress that they appear to be in the early stages of long term trend changes. Clearly, if the market takes a hard dump south, most stocks will suffer, as a general rule. At the same time, I'm seeing some substantial changes in the charts to indicate it's worthy of notice. Maybe it's a bit early and they will have more weakness? But too many look as though they've made their bottoms and retested them before moving upwards.

I approach this with the "stock pickers" mentality. Many stocks have soared over the past 2 years.

With respect to the trend changes, I am mostly looking at those "solid" companies with relatively good fundamentals that have been in downtrends for the better part of the past 2 years. Some have been in the bottoming process for the past 4 or 6 months and some are just showing the changes over the past 6 weeks or so. A great number of weak stocks have shown unexpected strength the past 3 weeks. Too many to ignore....
