What a failure. The molecules used in life can be used to encode information, given a LANGUAGE which determines what a particular arrangement of molecules mean, but they don't have to. The key thing is the LANGUAGE .... that is, a particular codon (string of three nucleic bases) encode for a particular amino acid or a punctuation message.

The Oxford piece is getting at the concepts to be used in potential molecular computing or molecular robotic applications. IOW it's talking about the concepts to be used in future INTELLIGENT DESIGN of such molecular computers or robots.
