Steven,

3Com sees stock price tumble after the bell

December 2, 1997 05:21 PM

NEW YORK, Dec 2 (Reuters) - 3Com Corp COMS saw its stock price drop nearly five points in after-hours trade Tuesday after the computer networking company warned it will cut inventory and report second quarter earnings below Wall Street expectations.

Traders said 3Com stock traded at 30-5/8 once it was released from a Nasdaq halt. The stock closed at 35-5/16, traders said.

3Com's warning sent ripples through the computer networking industry, with Cisco Systems Inc CSCO dropping to 85 after closing at 86-1/2.

Well, it isn't just inventory stuffing. COMS came out and said they will miss numbers badly also.

So its alright for a company to have a market cap of 12 billion+ and report earnings .01-.04/share ("slightly" profitable IMO)??? Even if they COULD turn it around, how long does it take to get back to earning the .45/share they SHOULD have been at to justify the stock price? BWDIK

3COM must have something planned long term. I think they're breaking ground on some new buildings, adding to their campus.
Right next to one of the rivers that drains the valley.
Looks to me to be about 20 feet BELOW flood stage.

I say that they make the bottom two floors their warehouse for excess inventory and let El Nino take care of the problem.
