Economics is, quite obviously, a very different academic discipline from the sciences you note. It's less cumulative.

It's clear you've got a serious problem with the awarding of the Nobel in Economics. Fine. Just not the topic at hand.

The Nobel recognizes eminence in the field. There have been lots of very serious disagreements about the nature of the award and the criteria. Nonetheless, it's about as clear an indication as I can think of that an economist's work is widely respected. In Krugman's case, which is what this is about, it is a clear recognition of that. Hardly, as Steve seems to think, that he is simply incompetent.

"the Nobel Prize in Economics ain't like ... literature..."

I dunno; economics is a genre of fiction.

<<<< Just sayin' -The Nobel Prize in Economics ain't like physics, chemistry,>>>>

Economics is not a science. It could be but you can't control variables or test. Well theoretically you could - but it will never happen. Discovery Magazine listed the 100 most important science stories for last year. How many dealt with economics?........ Zero!

Krugman knows economics is a work in progress. In the preface to one of his books he shows how a simple voucher system for baby sitting trade offs with a bunch of yuppies went array and was thus, much more complicated than anyone thought.

So Krugman has the wisdom to know all one can do is grapple with the concepts of economics. And he does that well, IMO.

I understand cold how the WWII stimulus and full employment pulled us out of the great depression and Krugman explained that to me.

And if Obama had appointed Krugman and listened to him we would be out of this recession already.

IMO.
