>>I heard an announcement on CNBC that the G3 has a bug and Apple admitted to it. That's all I heard. I had to rush to meeting. Anybody want to elaborate?<<

If the StyleWriter incompatibility issue was what CNBC was refering to it is hardly "news". This is taken from the Apple TechInfoLibrary article dated 11/10/97.

" The Color StyleWriter 4100 and Color StyleWriter 4500 are not compatible with the Power Macintosh G3 computers. When attempting to print using the current driver (v1.0.3) the following error dialog is displayed: "The printer is not responding. Make sure that the current port is selected in the Chooser and that the printer is properly connected and turned on. Click Cancel to terminate printing."

Apple is investigating a workaround with a driver update which will be posted as soon as possible. Continue to check here for information on its availability.

The PowerBook G3, Power Macintosh 8600 250/300, Power Macintosh 9600 300/350 and Power Macintosh computers equipped with the 233-MHz processor upgrade may also exhibit this behavior. For these models it may be possible to significantly improve reliability by turning virtual memory ON."

I've spoken with the local Apple sales rep a couple times in the last week about this "bug," (if in fact we're talking about the printer bug) and it sure doesn't appear to be giving him much worry.

Of course I was afraid of a situation like this when it looked like Apple might be ready to make a run at profitability. Because they've been so beaten up over the last months, they're not going to be allowed the luxury of any missteps in the release of hardware or software, regardless of how insignificant or temporary the problem.

Alas.

Hope all you shorts don't get beat up too badly on the bounce!

Good luck,

Mark
