That song & album by Waylon Jennings , Bobby Bare , Mel Tillis & Jerry Reid "Old Dogs" etc , was mostly completely penned by Shel Silverstein best known in the 1950's as a cartoonist with an accute sense of futility ;o)

Let me add that Shel Silverstein was also probably best known for his children's books, turns out he was a regular renaissance man back then, cartoons for Playboy , songs for the country boyz , maybe Spinoza reincarnated ? :)
