That song & album by Waylon Jennings , Bobby Bare , Mel Tillis & Jerry Reid "Old Dogs" etc , was mostly completely penned by Shel Silverstein best known in the 1950's as a cartoonist with an accute sense of futility ;o) en.wikipedia.org one of his most known cartoons in the 1950's
