All of the most civilized, happy and healthy nations engage in it. E.g. before we had a comprehensive emergency medical services system in my state if someone got hurt or injured they just threw them in a car and hoped they survived until they could get them some where. Government rebalanced that and now if someone gets hurt or sick an emergency medical technician is there in minutes and trained to stabilize the patient and with a worked out procedure as to where to tansprot them to. And as far a cuddling them is concerned (that is so crass), that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about the abject poor I see dragging themselves onto the bus every day trying to just get by. The folks I used to see on the San Pablo bus or going out Aroura in Seattle. One can see the pain aand despair in their eyes. If one takes the time to look and give a shit. From what I gather you had/have it pretty easy. Folks paid for your education, including law school. You were LUCKY enough to be born with an above average IQ. So life is easy for you. But what if you had been born in abject poverty with a below average IQ? You dont feel those who are lucky owe anything to those who are not so lucky. It is just tough titty to you? Sure we can have safety nets but you may not be super happy cuddling up in them, and I'm ok with that. And i don't know what kind of teachers you know, but I hardly sit at all, all day long. I wonder how long I'll be able to teach. I honestly don't know. I'll try to do something else if I can't teach, but if I have a big chunk of change saved, I don't deserve my kids money, regifted to me through the government, because I can't work- unless I am disabled (and I paid 100% for my disability insurance). If that's right wing, then so be it. I've never worried about where my beliefs fell on the political continuum. I try to go for what's logical. I'm not trying to tow a party line.
