When Clinton raised taxes, Greenspan blessed it. I kind of liked Greenspan then. Then, Greenspan warned Clinton it would be bad to pay down the debt "too fast" when current operating surpluses began appearing. Later, when Bush wanted to cut taxes, at first to fight the small recession, and later when that wasn't an issue, because it was the people's money, Greenspan blessed THAT. So, he's been sort of an asshat for a quite a while, even before the total economic collapse that had his fingerprints all over it.

Of course he was in good company! Thats the whole point John, krugman didn't warn and didn't see it coming until it was waaaaaaaaay too late!
