I suspect the mention in todays Investors Business Daily is the 'buy-product' of PR. The article was about Iomega. A good PR firm will get your company mentioned in articles written primarily about the competition. A good PR firm will get your company mentioned in articles about the Digital Photography industry. The Business Week cover story about HP's move into digital photography had no mention of Sandisk. (Bad PR!) Have you ever noticed how Fidelity Investments gets its name mentioned in articles about Merril-Lynch. (Good PR!) Fidelity used to be a lot smaller than ML. Fidelity has always understood that the cost of PR is worth the price.
