It is very difficult to say that one doesn't like the price action in apple today - however, it has been kind of underperforming for a while - about 1% down from high while none of the indices are. This might be a warning sign.
Overhead resistances -
553 - 10 day ema
562 - 20 day ema

I am actually quite amazed that most of the top tech companies haven't announced a big honking dividend before the end of the year.

EDIT: Interestingly, GOOG, INTC, MSFT are all above their 10/20 avgs now. Goog being the strongest of them all.

Content is not enough - we already have access to all the content we want - however poor quality it is...

I think TV content distribution is difficult to alter because the current model isn't really threatened (as the music biz clearly was 10+ years ago). Cable companies and producers seem to hold all of the cards and forcing any change there looks expensive...

In that case, I think Apple will go the technology route and produce a TV with an interface that allows it to function something like a desktop in the living room. Though smart TV's have kinda flopped in the West, they're doing much better in China, India and Brazil where the desktop presence is likely lower than the US/Europe. Wouldn't be surprised if Apple smells a dual opportunity there: disruption of a nascent market and new global growth.

> I am quite happy with my 80-inch sharp tv

I've been shopping for a flat screen for some time. Currently I watch on Sony Wega TVs which were about as good as CRTs got. I'm happy with them, except for their HUGE size.

I have to say, I'm not all that impressed by they "better" pictures of the flat screen or HDTVs I've seen. They are not all that better looking than my Wegas. If I buy one it will be more about freeing up space in my home which is worth in $250/sq ft and saving energy over my Wegas.

I think if you read up on what Gene Munster told investors about where Apple is going on their TVs it might become more clear to you:

businessinsider.com

Munster says its not content keeping it back its the IGZO screens which seem to have quality advantages as well as cost advantages over LED and OLED screens. See links in my post:

My guess is an Apple TV is going to be a superior experience. I doubt I'll get one but I'm guessing a lot of people will. Even poor people splurge on TVs.
